Holiday Cottages – The New Great British Holiday

The global financial crisis is having one interesting effect on British –based tourism which would perhaps be unexpected. UK holidays are on the rise thanks to increasing flight prices and less willingness to shell out on a holiday during the credit crunch. This is, in turn, providing a great boost to those who run holiday cottages across the country, as families and groups alike flock to holiday homes for a week away from the city.

Holiday cottages have long been a staple of the Great British holiday. Families can easily save money by renting a venue and self-catering instead of heading out to posh restaurants every night, whilst in addition bringing significantly increased comfort to the usual camping or caravan holiday. It also gives opportunities for groups with pets to take them along without any protracted negotiations or arguments with hotel owners and flight attendants alike.

Location is key, but the UK has no shortage of variety in venue. Head to the Lake District, Peak District or any other national park to find a great choice of holiday cottages that are just a short walk from epic scenery and fantastic outdoor activities. More of a beach bum? Similarly you’ll find no lack of coastal holiday homes to meet your requirements, just a short walk from the sandy shores. There’s plenty more choice in-between two, with choices in less spectacular but even more convenient surroundings such as The Chilterns and the Kennet & Avon Canal.

UK-based holiday cottages also provide a significantly more hassle-free journey should you plan well. Aside from the odd day sitting on the M5 stationary and frustrated, which can be avoided with careful planning of your holiday timing, you’re not likely to encounter any issues in getting you and your various bits and bobs over to your holiday home. You can also bring much more –sports kit, musical instruments, even a barbeque if you need one!

So the UK financial crisis might be causing a shift in the way the British holiday, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. There’s still plenty of options out there, and will global warming the weather is only going to get better…maybe….
